Record Title: The Yardbirds Shapes of Things Artist: The Yardbirds Label: Bomb Record No: 104.5 Stereo or Mono: Some tracks in Mono, others in Stereo Pressing: Canadian Jacket Condition: NM-(8) Gatefold cover with some ringwear (see scans). Inside is very clean and contains an excellent 2 page history of the group printed on both sides of the gatefold cover. Vinyl Condition: NM-(8) 3 sides, VG+(7) 1 side. Some audible imperfections (primarily on one side) but nothing that would distract from the great listening pleasure.
Other Notable Information: Described on the jacket as a collection of classic Yardbirds recordings 1964-66, this double album contains a nice mix of tracks which feature Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. THERE ARE MANY RARE OUTAKES AND ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF FAMILIAR YARDBIRDS SONGS ON THIS LP.
We've been a Yardbirds fan & collector for many years, and to our ears "Someone To Love Parts One and Two" are alternate versions of "Lost Woman", which appeared on the "Roger The Engineer" Lp. "Someone to Love Part 2" is just the instrumental backing track and features the group experimenting a bit. "What Do You Want" is also a backing track - no vocals. "Jeff's Blues" is also a alternate take of "Jeff's Boogie" which also made an appearance on the "Roger The Engineer" Lp. Though not 100% sure "I Wish You Would", "Certain Girl", "Got To Hurry" and "Steeled Blues" sound like they are mixed slightly differently from the tracks I am familiar with. Another BONUS is the track "For R.S.G", which the liner notes say was never previously released. We haven't heard or seen this track on any other Yardbirds Lp.
This record is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for any Yardbirds collector. A combination of RARE TRACKS, familiar hits and a couple of live tracks from the "Five Live Yardbirds" Lp make this a compelling find on an obscure Canadian Label.
$34.99 plus shipping and handling.
