This is a great light gree n cove r that was print ed in 1940 but maile d by a soldi er at Peter son Field in Color ado Sprin gs, Color ado, prob ably durin g Worl d War 2 beca use of the "Win the War" 3 cent stam p that was used (ther e's no date canc ellati on).
The cove r bears a blue flying eagle & stars Socia l Secu rity impri nt in the retur n addr ess corn er, and featu res an open wind ow that allow s the addr ess writt en on the card insid e to show throu gh. The insid e card is yello w and the same blue flying eagle & stars Socia l Secu rity impri nt is at the top, follo wed by the roma n nume r MCX XXVI I and the addr ess to whic h the cove r was sent.
The inter estin g thing abou t this is the back side of the inner card. Next to the impri nted word s "Soci al Secu rity" is a tiny pair of wom en's pink panti es (com plete with white lace arou nd the waist & leg band s) attac hed to the card by a silver color ed "padl ock". Bene ath the panti es (whic h lift up and are in great condi tion) is spac e to write a mess age to the recipi ent.
