This is a group of 4 different World War I era cigarette cards (we think) featuring naval battle scenes.
The views include a great view of the sinking of the Russian military mineship "Jenissei", a sailor in the water grasping at a lifering, a fountain of water in front of a battleship (probably the result of a cannon shot hitting the water), and a number of men jumping overboard from a listing ship, with another ship steaming toward it.
As a more detailed sample description of just one of the cards, on the card identifying the Jenessei by name, the warship is sinking on the left with sailors still aboard, other sailors are clinging to a lifeboat and diving from the ship into the ocean in the center, and a large navy ship (presumably the German ship that sunk the Jenissei) is in the upper right corner.
Like many of these old & very collectible tobacco cards, these all have vibrant colors are miniature works of art.
The backs of the three from series 5400 are blank, but the back of the 4th card, from serie 5412, has the German words shown in the second scan.
Captions of the cards are: "Untergang des russ. Minenschiffs Jenissei"; "Seeschlacht im Hafen von Chemulpa"; "Zerstorung eines russ Aviso durch die Japaner"; and "Gerettet"
Type of Cards: German cigarette card (I believe), serie 5400: 2, 3 & 4; and serie 5412: 5
Year: Probably from some time during World War I, 1914-1918
Condition is overall Very Good. A nice find for tobacco or trading card collectors, and for military or World War 1 buffs!
All four cards are just $11..00 postpaid to a US address, or $13.50 postpaid to anywhere else.
