This is an intact, well-preserved union member's dues book spanning from 1935-1938. It is captioned Official Due Card of International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chaffeurs, Stablemen and Helpers. A logo featuring a wheel and two horse heads is in the center of the front cover. Below the logo is the text Affiliated with the American Federation of Labor. The back cover features the same logo with the text Organized October 1, 1903.
The booklet has 8 pages plus the front and back covers. The inside front cover features instructions for the Local Secretary-Treasurer. The first page indicates by hand printing and handstamp that the booklet belonged to Mr. Joseph Vlha as a member of the Bakery Drivers Local Union No. 495 of Pittsburgh, Pa. There is an initiation fee stamp affixed to the bottom of that page which is handstamped Mar 16 1930 K.C.M.
Five of the remaining pages have boxes into which the Secretary-Treasurer was to affix stamps when the tradesman's dues for that month were paid. There are stamps affixed onto these pages starting April 1 1935 and ensing on Mar 1938. Altogether there are 24 stamps plus the initiation fee stamp. The last page is captioned Local Fines and Assessments. There are 2 handwritten entries (one of the entries also bears a handstamp) on this page, dated 1936 and 1937. The inside back cover is a list of "Things to be Remembered" by the duespayer.
Excellent condition, especially for a vintage paper item that was carried around by the original owner a good bit. The binding is tight and intact, there are no dogeared or missing pages, no rips or tears. This man took care of his dues booklet - he was probably thankful to have a job during the Great Depression.
